The upcoming fantasy romance anime Though I Am an Inept Villainess has revealed a brand-new visual ahead of its official premiere on July 12, 2026.
The newly released artwork highlights the series’ main characters while emphasizing the elegant imperial court setting and the emotional tension surrounding the story’s body-swap premise.
Based on the light novel series written by Satsuki Nakamura and illustrated by YukiKana, the anime adaptation is being produced by Doga Kobo.
Though I Am an Inept Villainess follows Kou Reirin, a noble maiden admired throughout the imperial court for her grace and beauty. However, her life changes dramatically after the jealous Shu Keigetsu uses forbidden magic to swap their bodies. Suddenly trapped inside the body of a disgraced outcast, Reirin must survive political conspiracies, dangerous rivalries, and the harsh realities of palace life while trying to uncover the truth behind the growing turmoil within the court.
The series blends fantasy, romance, court intrigue, and drama while exploring themes of identity, reputation, survival, and personal growth.
The anime is directed by Mitsue Yamazaki, with Yoshiko Nakamura handling series composition, Ai Kikuchi providing character designs, and Yukari Hashimoto composing the music.
