Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 Comes to Nintendo Switch 2 With Infinity Castle Character Pass in October

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 29, 2026, bringing CyberConnect2’s arena fighting game to Nintendo’s latest hardware with enhanced performance and the complete Infinity Castle Character Pass.

The new release is officially titled Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + “Infinity Castle” Character Pass.

SEGA confirmed that the package will be sold both digitally and physically. More information about the physical edition, including regional availability and packaging details, will be announced closer to launch.

Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Launches on October 29

The dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version will launch on October 29, 2026.

The announcement follows the original game’s release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC in August 2025.

  • Release date: October 29, 2026
  • Platform: Nintendo Switch 2
  • Developer: CyberConnect2
  • Publisher: SEGA
  • Format: Physical and digital editions
  • Included DLC: Infinity Castle Character Pass

A price for the complete Nintendo Switch 2 package has not yet been announced for every region.

The Switch 2 Edition Includes the Infinity Castle Character Pass

The Nintendo Switch 2 release will include the base game and the paid Infinity Castle Character Pass.

The pass expands the Versus Mode roster with characters and alternate versions inspired by the battles of the Infinity Castle Arc.

This means Nintendo Switch 2 players will receive a more complete version of the game without needing to purchase every included character pack separately.

The downloadable fighters focus on characters who play major roles during the Demon Slayer Corps’ final confrontation with Muzan Kibutsuji and the remaining Upper Rank demons.

Infinity Castle Characters Expand the Roster

The Infinity Castle downloadable content introduced several fighters based on their appearances and abilities during the final stages of the anime’s story.

The complete pass includes character packs centered on:

  • Zenitsu Agatsuma from the Infinity Castle Arc
  • Kaigaku
  • Tanjiro Kamado from the Infinity Castle Arc
  • Shinobu Kocho from the Infinity Castle Arc
  • Doma

The Switch 2 edition is expected to include access to these fighters as part of the package rather than limiting players to the roster available in the original base game.

Muzan Kibutsuji was previously added through a free update and is separate from the paid character pass.

The New Edition Offers Improved Performance

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition will take advantage of the newer console’s increased processing power.

The original Nintendo Switch version was designed around the technical limitations of the first system. The dedicated Switch 2 edition is intended to provide smoother gameplay and improved visual presentation.

The announcement highlights a higher frame rate, allowing battles to run more smoothly than on the original Switch release.

This improvement should be particularly noticeable during fast Ultimate Arts, tag attacks and battles involving characters whose techniques fill the arena with elemental effects.

Exact resolution targets for portable and television modes have not yet been fully detailed through the international announcement.

Existing Switch Owners Will Have an Upgrade Option

Players who already own the Nintendo Switch version will not necessarily need to purchase the entire game again.

An upgrade option is planned for owners of the original Switch release who want to access the enhancements of the Nintendo Switch 2 edition.

The exact regional price and conditions of the upgrade have not yet been detailed.

Players should also note that the Infinity Castle Character Pass is paid downloadable content. Ownership of the original base game does not automatically mean that every DLC character will be included in an upgrade unless the selected package specifically contains the pass.

Save Data Transfer Details Remain Unconfirmed

SEGA has not yet published complete information about transferring save data from the Nintendo Switch edition to the Nintendo Switch 2 edition.

It therefore remains unclear whether Story Mode progress, unlocked characters, equipment configurations and online records will move automatically between versions.

More technical information is expected before the October launch.

What Is The Hinokami Chronicles 2 About?

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2 continues Tanjiro Kamado’s journey after the events adapted in the first game.

The Story Mode allows players to revisit three major storylines from the television anime:

  • Entertainment District Arc
  • Swordsmith Village Arc
  • Hashira Training Arc

The story begins with Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke joining Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui on a mission in the Entertainment District.

Their investigation leads to a battle against Upper Rank Six demons Daki and Gyutaro, whose shared existence makes defeating them considerably more difficult than confronting an ordinary demon.

The game then follows Tanjiro to the Swordsmith Village, where he encounters Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji.

The village comes under attack from Upper Rank Four Hantengu and Upper Rank Five Gyokko, forcing Tanjiro and his allies to defend the swordsmiths responsible for producing the Demon Slayer Corps’ Nichirin blades.

The final portion of the base Story Mode adapts the Hashira Training Arc, in which Tanjiro and the other Demon Slayers undergo intense preparation before the confrontation with Muzan and the Upper Ranks.

The Game Features More Than 40 Playable Characters

The Hinokami Chronicles 2 significantly expands the playable roster introduced in the original game.

More than 40 characters are available in Versus Mode, including all nine active Hashira from the television anime.

The Hashira lineup includes:

  • Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira
  • Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira
  • Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira
  • Tengen Uzui, the Sound Hashira
  • Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira
  • Mitsuri Kanroji, the Love Hashira
  • Obanai Iguro, the Serpent Hashira
  • Sanemi Shinazugawa, the Wind Hashira
  • Gyomei Himejima, the Stone Hashira

Each fighter has a distinct combat style based on the sword techniques, Blood Demon Arts or physical abilities shown in the anime.

Versus Mode Supports Online and Offline Battles

Versus Mode allows players to build teams and fight against the computer, local opponents or other players online.

Most teams consist of two characters who can switch roles during battle or assist one another with support attacks.

The sequel introduced new mechanics, including Dual Ultimates, which allow compatible character combinations to perform special cinematic finishing attacks together.

Equipment can also be used to customize certain advantages and create different approaches to battle.

Dual Ultimates Celebrate Character Relationships

Dual Ultimates are one of the sequel’s major additions.

These attacks pair characters with meaningful relationships from the anime, creating unique animations rather than using the same finishing sequence for every possible team.

The mechanic allows the game to represent family bonds, friendships, rivalries and partnerships through visually elaborate attacks.

Nintendo Switch 2’s improved performance should help these cinematic sequences appear smoother than in the original Switch edition.

CyberConnect2 Developed the Game

CyberConnect2 developed The Hinokami Chronicles 2.

The Japanese studio is known for adapting anime battles into cinematic arena fighters, particularly through the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm series.

Its Demon Slayer games use three-dimensional character models designed to resemble the art and animation of the ufotable television adaptation.

Ultimate Arts frequently recreate recognizable attacks and dramatic scenes with camera movements similar to those used in the anime.

The Original Version Launched in August 2025

The Hinokami Chronicles 2 was first released in Japan on August 1, 2025.

The international release followed on August 5 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam.

The new Switch 2 edition arrives more than a year later with the benefit of the patches, balance adjustments, free characters and Infinity Castle downloadable content released after the original launch.

The Switch 2 Version Is More Than Backward Compatibility

The existing Nintendo Switch version can already operate on Nintendo Switch 2 through backward compatibility.

However, the newly announced release is a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 edition developed to use the newer console’s hardware more effectively.

Players using the original Switch software through backward compatibility should not expect it to automatically receive every visual and performance enhancement included in the native edition.

The upgrade package is intended to provide existing owners with a path to the dedicated version.

Physical Edition Details Will Be Announced Later

SEGA has confirmed that a physical edition is planned for Nintendo Switch 2.

However, the publisher has not yet revealed whether the physical release will contain the full game on the card, require an additional download or use a Game-Key Card format.

Regional pricing, preorder bonuses and participating retailers also remain unannounced.

Players interested in the physical edition should wait for SEGA’s regional product listings before assuming that every market will receive identical packaging or included content.

What Remains Unknown About the Switch 2 Edition?

The final resolution in television and portable modes has not yet been officially specified.

SEGA has not published a complete technical comparison between the Switch and Switch 2 editions.

The upgrade price for existing owners remains unannounced in most regions.

Save-data transfer and compatibility with previously purchased DLC still require additional clarification.

The publisher has also not confirmed the exact format of the physical edition.

Final Thoughts

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2 will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 29, 2026.

The dedicated edition will package the base game with the Infinity Castle Character Pass, giving Nintendo Switch 2 players access to the main story, the expanded Versus Mode roster and the paid fighters inspired by the final battles of Demon Slayer.

The game adapts the Entertainment District, Swordsmith Village and Hashira Training arcs while featuring more than 40 playable characters, including all nine Hashira.

The new release will offer smoother performance than the original Nintendo Switch version and will be available both digitally and physically.

An upgrade option is also planned for existing Nintendo Switch owners, although pricing, save-data transfer and the complete physical-edition details have not yet been announced.

With the Infinity Castle fighters included and the stronger hardware allowing CyberConnect2’s cinematic battles to run more smoothly, the Switch 2 edition is positioned as the most complete portable version of Tanjiro Kamado’s latest arena-fighting adventure.
