The upcoming anime adaptation of Red River has revealed new details ahead of its highly anticipated debut in July 2026. Alongside the announcement of additional voice cast members, the series also shared a new visual featuring several important characters from the story.
Based on the classic shojo manga by Chie Shinohara, the anime continues to attract attention from longtime fans who have waited years to see the series finally receive a television adaptation.
The newly announced cast members include:
- Gen Sato as Zannanza
- Kikunosuke Toya as Kikkuli
- Shoya Chiba as Hadi
- Katsuyuki Konishi as Ramses
- Aya Uchida as Nakia
Previously announced cast members include Mirai Tachibana as Yuri and Wataru Kato as Kail, two of the central characters in the historical fantasy story.
The anime is being produced by Tatsunoko Production, with Kosuke Kobayashi directing the adaptation. Yoriko Tomita is handling the series composition, while Kenji Fujisaki is responsible for the character designs.
Red River, also known as Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori, follows Yuri, a modern-day teenage girl who is suddenly transported to ancient Anatolia after becoming entangled in a dangerous royal conspiracy. As she struggles to survive in an unfamiliar era filled with political conflict, war, and intrigue, Yuri gradually becomes involved with Prince Kail and the fate of the Hittite Empire itself.
The original manga became widely known for blending romance, history, fantasy, and political drama, earning a dedicated fanbase over the years. The anime adaptation is scheduled to premiere in Japan in July 2026.
