The Bugle Call: Song of War Anime Reveals Epic 2027 Premiere and First Teaser
The Bugle Call: Song of War is officially receiving a television anime adaptation, with its premiere scheduled for sometime in 2027. The announcement was accompanied by a dramatic teaser visual and an extended promotional trailer offering an early look at the series’ war-torn fantasy world, supernatural warriors and music-driven battles.
Based on the manga written by Sora Mozuku and illustrated by Higoro Toumori, the upcoming anime will introduce viewers to Luca, a young mercenary bugler whose unusual connection to sound places him at the center of a conflict capable of reshaping the world.
An exact release date has not yet been announced. Details regarding the Japanese voice cast, episode count and international streaming platforms also remain unknown.
A Four-Minute Teaser Introduces a World of War and Music
The first teaser trailer runs for nearly four minutes, making it considerably longer than the brief promotional videos normally released alongside an initial anime announcement. Instead of revealing only a few isolated images, the video presents the atmosphere, major characters, supernatural abilities and large-scale battles that will define the adaptation.
The trailer places particular emphasis on the relationship between music and warfare. Trumpets, military formations and intense orchestral arrangements are combined with supernatural combat, suggesting that sound will be much more than a stylistic element within the story.
Luca’s musical ability appears to influence both his perception of the battlefield and the soldiers fighting around him. The teaser also introduces Zoe, another individual marked by the same mysterious condition that gives Luca his extraordinary powers.
Although many important questions remain unanswered, the footage establishes the anime as a military fantasy filled with political conflict, personal tragedy and visually ambitious action sequences.
What Is The Bugle Call: Song of War About?
The story takes place in Arboral Year 1294, an era dominated by nine enormous structures known as the Spires. These towers are remnants of an ancient civilization and are believed to contain lost knowledge and powerful secrets. As different nations attempt to control them, the world becomes trapped in an endless cycle of invasions, alliances and wars.
Luca serves as a bugler for a mercenary company that survives by participating in those conflicts. Despite growing up surrounded by violence, he does not dream of becoming a celebrated warrior or military commander. His greatest ambition is to leave the battlefield behind and become a true musician.
However, Luca is one of the mysterious people known as the Branch-Born, individuals identified by branches growing from their heads. Each of them possesses an unusual power that separates them from ordinary humans.
Luca’s ability allows him to see sound, transforming music into something almost physical. What initially appears to be a gift capable of helping him pursue his artistic dream soon becomes a powerful weapon.
After a devastating battle leaves him close to death, Luca is rescued by a mysterious Pontiff. He eventually discovers that other Branch-Born people exist and that the Pontiff has gathered several of them into a special group intended to influence the outcome of the ongoing war.
Luca’s music can inspire soldiers, shape the flow of combat and turn him into an essential figure on the battlefield. His dream of escaping war is therefore replaced by a far more painful reality: the same talent that could have made him a musician may force him to become an instrument of destruction.
CA Soa Will Produce the Anime
Animation production will be handled by CA Soa, a recently established studio operating under the CyberAgent Group. The Bugle Call: Song of War will serve as the studio’s first major television anime project.
This makes the adaptation especially significant for CA Soa. A successful production could help define the studio’s visual identity and establish its position within the anime industry.
The project is being led by director Shinya Watada. Series composition will be handled by Michihiro Tsuchiya, while Michinori Chiba is responsible for adapting the manga’s character designs for animation.
Hiroshi Arisawa will serve as action animator, with Kanetake Ebikawa working on concept design and Takayuki Yanase handling prop design.
The production team includes several artists with experience creating mechanical designs, large-scale action and military settings. Their involvement could be particularly important for a series featuring armies, fortified cities, ancient structures and supernatural battles.
Shirogumi Will Handle the CG Production
CG production for the anime will be led by Shirogumi, a Japanese studio known for its work in computer-generated animation and visual effects.
The teaser already demonstrates how CG elements may be used to support battle scenes, military movements and environments that would be difficult to animate entirely through traditional methods. The challenge will be maintaining a consistent visual style while presenting the scale of the manga’s wars and supernatural abilities.
The Bugle Call contains battles involving large groups of soldiers, unusual weapons and powers capable of changing entire combat situations. Effective use of CG could allow the anime to portray these conflicts with greater movement and complexity.
Music Will Be Central to the Adaptation
Because Luca’s abilities are directly connected to sound, music will play a central role in both the story and the anime’s presentation.
Hitomi Koto will compose the soundtrack. According to the production announcement, the score will make extensive use of live instruments to strengthen the emotional scenes and give the battles a more powerful musical identity.
This approach could help distinguish The Bugle Call from other military fantasy anime. Music is not simply expected to accompany the action. It represents Luca’s greatest dream, his supernatural power and the burden that keeps him connected to the battlefield.
The first teaser reflects this concept by carefully synchronizing musical performances with combat imagery. Bugle calls and orchestral arrangements create tension while also emphasizing how Luca experiences the world through sound.
The Manga Began in Jump Square
The original manga, known in Japan as Senso Kyoshitsu, began serialization in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine in 2022.
Sora Mozuku writes the story, while Higoro Toumori provides the artwork. The series has developed a distinctive identity by combining dark fantasy, military strategy, political conflict and supernatural powers with a protagonist whose greatest desire is artistic rather than heroic.
Thirteen collected volumes were available in Japan when the anime was announced on June 30, 2026. Volume 14 is scheduled to be released in Japan on July 3, 2026.
The manga is also officially published in English by VIZ Media under the title The Bugle Call: Song of War, giving international readers an opportunity to discover Luca’s story before the anime begins.
Why The Bugle Call Could Become a Standout Fantasy Anime
Military fantasy stories frequently focus on powerful generals, legendary warriors or political leaders. The Bugle Call approaches war through the perspective of a young musician who never wanted to become a weapon.
This creates a compelling contradiction at the center of the narrative. Luca wants his music to bring beauty into the world, but his powers make that same music incredibly valuable to armies and rulers.
The Branch-Born characters also add another layer of mystery. Each possesses a unique ability, allowing the story to introduce creative confrontations without abandoning its emphasis on military strategy and political ambition.
The combination of dark fantasy, supernatural action, large-scale warfare and a music-based power system could help the anime appeal to viewers looking for a more serious and unconventional adventure.
When Will The Bugle Call Anime Premiere?
The Bugle Call: Song of War is currently scheduled to begin broadcasting and streaming in 2027. The production committee has not confirmed a specific month or season.
No voice actors have been announced, and international streaming services have not yet revealed whether they will carry the series outside Japan.
Additional trailers, character visuals and casting announcements are expected as production continues. More information about the opening and ending themes, episode count and precise release schedule should also be revealed closer to the premiere.
With its extended first teaser, experienced production staff and unusual combination of music and military fantasy, The Bugle Call: Song of War is already shaping up to be one of the most intriguing new anime projects planned for 2027.
